Asset Project Manager (Programmes)

As a crucial member of the Projects and Planning Team, you will be responsible for the identification, prioritisation, planning and management of Highway Assets. Specifically, you will be responsible for the Surrey Highways safety barrier maintenance programme, which has a budget of nearly £1m for 2008/09.

The challenge for you is to learn about what surveys and investigations are necessary to inform more senior decision-makers’ actions, and to find ways in which these decisions can be practically implemented, going forward. The project content will be varied and diverse, and you will be required to work very closely with many other individuals – both internally and with external contractors – so excellent influencing and decision making skills will be crucial to the role.

In addition to identifying and planning future solutions, you will also be asked to produce and manage a programme of work: liaising closely with contractors to ensure that this work is delivered on time and on budget.

You will hold a HNC or equivalent in engineering should have a good working knowledge of the relevant principles, practices and procedures relating to Asset Planning, Highway Engineering and Maintenance. In order to achieve the best results for Surrey Highways, some previous experience of what has and hasn’t worked in this type of environment is necessary.
