The Directorate has responsibility for the delivery of a range of important ICT applications as part of the Council’s challenge to refocus the way our services are delivered. In addition to training and supporting the use of our major applications, for which appropriate training will be provided, you will be responsible for providing local day-to-day support on Microsoft Office 2007 desktop applications and local management of access to the corporate network and services. The Council is in the final stages of migrating its users from a Novell to a Microsoft network environment and you will be expected to make a major contribution to supporting the Directorate’s staff post-migration as part of this programme. You must therefore be able to work on your own initiative, but within established policy guidelines and procedures, and have a ‘can do’ approach to problem solving.

You will possess post-qualification experience in ICT support including practical knowledge and experience of supporting end users in the use of Microsoft Office 2007, Windows XP and Microsoft Outlook/Exchange, together with experience of software problem solving. You will also hold a minimum of BTEC National Level in Information Technology, or an equivalent and will also have the ability to train small groups of staff and prepare guides/aid-memoirs appropriate to users of all ages and abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also essential.

Initial appointment and progression within the career grade will be dependent upon qualifications, experience and capability assessment against the progression criteria.

The post will be based at Northgate House, Halifax, although you may be required to travel throughout the Borough and must therefore be mobile. An appropriate travel allowance will be paid for all official journeys undertaken.
