Islington Learning and Working Manager

PO9 (£54,240-£56,154)

Reference: RER/2340B/JM

“Islington council has established an innovative service to provide high quality adult learning opportunities leading to employment for our residents. It combines our highly rated adult learning service with our programme to help residents into employment, particularly parents with children rising five, who will be required to seek work. We have developed a new partnership with the outstanding City and Islington College to plan adult learning jointly across Islington. Islington is the 14th most deprived borough in the country, with high levels of child poverty. This service is a vital part of the council’s work to break the cycle of poverty in families.

We are seeking an experienced senior manager with a track record of delivering support services in inner city settings, and of working in partnership with voluntary, private and statutory organisations. You will be appropriately qualified and experienced in the teaching or training of adults. You will have in depth knowledge and understanding of the policy and the operational context of local government and further education, and will have managed complex budgets. Curriculum planning, staff management and continuous professional development will be central to motivating the teams to consolidate or extend previous Ofsted ratings.

The post will be jointly managed by City and Islington College and Islington Council. The postholder will be an Islington Council employee.

Deadline for applications is midnight on Wednesday 29th February. The interviews will be held on Tuesday 13th March 2012”
