Job vacancy details

Development Quality Manager

Employer:Reigate & Banstead Borough Council

Reference:SJ578

Salary:£35,346 - £56,487 plus benefits, pay award pending

Hours:36 per week

Working pattern:Full Time, Permanent position

Location:Town Hall, Reigate

Closing date:26/01/2009 12:00 PM

Despite comprising part of the Surrey stockbroker belt, with excellent transport links to London and the south coast, and having extensive green belt and AONB, we still have areas in need of physical and social regeneration. What’s more, we have New Growth Point status and major urban developments planned and under way in Redhill and Horley. All this adds up to a significant development agenda, but one that is matched by a strong community desire to maintain and enhance the character of our cherished areas.

In 2005, the Audit Commission rated the planning service as ‘good with promising prospects for improvement’ and we have an ambitious programme to deliver that improvement.

We are creating a development management team to integrate our work on planning applications, tree protection and enforcement and to focus on working more closely with Members on the more significant planning proposals. This involves three new teams dealing with major, minor and other applications. We are looking for someone to lead professionals in managing development within this framework, ensuring that we implement current and emerging policy effectively, so as to achieve the highest standards in terms of design and customer experience.

As a chartered town planner or urban designer, you will recognise good quality development and know what to do when something doesn’t measure up. You will assess your success by the difference you and your team make and the value you add to proposals through influence and negotiation. You will know how to lead and motivate others and be ready to do this within a diverse team. You will also recognise the importance of engaging with Members and service users to promote better understanding of planning and to achieve the right results.

To obtain further information please download an application pack below (CV’s will not be accepted). Alternatively please e-mail personnel@reigate-banstead.gov.uk or telephone 01737 276100 (24 hour answering service) supplying your e-mail or postal address. Please quote reference SJ578.

The closing date for the receipt of completed applications is mid-day on Monday 26th January 2009. It is anticipated that interviews will take place during the week commencing 9th February 2009.
