Sheffield is a great city and it deserves effective local government and good quality services. Sheffield City Council is one of Britain’s largest Authorities, spending around £1 billion a year and provides a range of services to the 512,000 citizens of Sheffield. Sheffield has been rated as “excellent” by the Audit Commission (as part of the Comprehensive Performance Assessment) putting us in the top percentage of Councils in the country. The Council promotes improving services, the balancing lives initiative and operates very flexible working arrangements. If you would like to contribute to our ongoing challenge of providing excellent services then we want to hear from you.
This is an opportunity to join our successful and innovative team that provides a high quality service across all Council functions. In addition to traditional financial systems, Internal Audit is BS EN ISO 9001-2000 registered and Chartermark accredited. Internal Audit has implemented a risk-based approach to auditing and we are committed to the continuing development of our employees and service.
The post holder will be required to take a senior role in the development of the Council’s counter-fraud arrangements. Duties will initially include strategy review, the advancement of Fraud Risk Management processes and provision of fraud awareness training across a range of services. Upon delivery of the counter fraud programme the post holder will have the opportunity to supervise and conduct audits across Council functions in line with professional standards and utilising an automated management information/working paper package (Galileo).
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills. Relevant experience of working within a counter fraud or financial environment and the supervision of more junior staff are preferable.
Sheffield City Council is currently undertaking a pay and grading review; as part of the review, the grade and salary for this post may be subject to change.
Interviews to be held 9th and 10th February 2009.
